What is the best entry-level/semi pro Digital SLR camera?

a digital SLR camera for a serious hobbyist. What are the standard equipment do i need? Ex. type of lens, flash, etc. The reason I am asking is because i am on a budget. I want to have the proper equipment as I am investing quite a lot for my hobby.

For an entry level DSLR, I would recommend a Canon Digital XT or XTi. Since the interface is easy to understand versus the Nikon.

Of course, at the end of the day it is up to you what you prefer.

I would suggest a Zoom lens, a macro lens, the kit lens would be okay for basic use. maybe a good flash and tripod

What for is the fuction MACRO in a digital camera?

Ive just bought a used a Cannon A620 but I dont have the intructions, the previous owner lost it, I understand almost everything but I dont get what the MACRO is for.

It's that little icon of the Flower, and at places your camera in a mode that allows it to focus much closer than normal.

Very handy for taking photos of very small objects and making them look big.

What makes a digital camera a dslr?

I ask this because I got a canon g10 for Christmas, I did not think this was a dslr, (I've been reading and looking for tutorials and it lists this camera as a prosumer dslr camera) but it can use lenses. So what exactly makes a camera a dslr? Is it the ability to use lenses, have manual focus, or what?

You are right about the G10 not being a DSLR. It means a digital single lens reflex and that you are looking through the lens to compose. Your G10 has a rangefinder window where you look through a separate viewfinder but see what the lens sees or you have liveview through the LCD screen.

What digital camera should I get which will take wide angle shots?

I know I need a different type of camera but I just want a digital camera. Need something to take interior shots of houses, as I am a real estate agent. Thanks for the help.

DIGITAL camera?

i just got a regular digital camera. in about an hour or so of turning it on & off and taking various pictures, the batteries (that came included with it) ran out. I put brand-new duracell batteries in there, and used it 3 or 4 times just turning on & off to look and show pictures, and now those batteries are bad! so, what is a good option for that camera? Someone told me to get rechargable batteries. I have some, but will they last any longer in there? (so i don't continuously have to recharge every time i use it.) is there any better alternative??? That really works. Muchas Gracias.

You probably need to use high capacity NmH (Nickel Metal Hydride ) batteries. I have a Cannon Digital, and a set of Alkalinse is good for about 15 pictures. With the High Capacity NmH batteries, I get about 60.

Suggestions on the Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera?

I'm super interested in getting the new Nikon Coolpix s630 digital camera, and I was wondering how people like the Nikon brand in general and what you guys would rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 [5 being great quality]. Also, I've heard that it doesn't have a flash feature? And that instead it has some sort of infared technology. If anyone has this camera or one of the closer models, could you tell me how you like it?

I honestly would hold off for a few weeks. Nikon is about to release a new batch of Coolpix Digital Cameras. I think the date is Feb 3, 2010.

I'm a Nikon shooter, and while I feel their DSLR's are great; the P&S line...eh, I feel Canon or Panasonic does a better job. What I would do is head to a store and physically hold one. Play with the menus and see how it feels in your hand.

The s630 does have a small flash, it's right next to the Nikon logo on the front. Take a look at this web site, it lists all of the features:

Skylight Digital Camera

I have a digital camera, how can I make the best out of it with astrophotography?

First off, I know that a 55 mm camera or CCD camera would be the obvious solution to taking picture of the night sky. But I have this Olympus c-750 digital camera with 10x optical zoom, a wide angle lense, a circular polarizing filter, and a skylight filter, and wanted to know how I could make it useful at night. How can I make the camera more sensitive to light? I wish there was a way to somehow open the shutter as you would for a normal camera and let it take long exposed shots, but I -don't think- this is possible. How could I atleast then slow the shutter speed? Is there anything else that I should know about, any other variables that would effect my shots? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

That camera will do exposures as long as 16 seconds, which is not long by the standards of astrophotography, but pretty long by any other standards. You probably need to use manual mode to access that shutter speed. See page 24 of your manual.
