Can a Sony handycam- DCR HC30 be set to 640x480 video resolution when recording?

The resolution of the video is 320x480 when transfered to pc.

Apparently you are one of the few people that magically and accidentally got USB streaming to work - most people don't. There is not other size selection. You have probably also discovered that if you want to watch on a TV screen or computer in full screen, the video looks terrible, blurry and pixelated.

The DCR HC30 is a miniDV tape based camcorder that uses firewire to connect the camcorder's DV port to the computer's firewire port. The high quality DV format video will look great on a big TV or full-screen on a computer - it is not compressed very much.

USB cannot transfer DV format video. USB-to-firewire cable/converter/adapter/hub things won't work, either.

Once you get DV format the video into the computer using firewire, your video editor can "Save As" lots of different ways - including the compressed version you want.
